NigeriaBlog Post Credit - JueunImage Credit - Pixabay We are learning about African countries in our Social Studies countries. In this class, we pair up with a partner and we make presentation about a given country. Our class has made presentations for almost all of the African countries.
I recently did a presentation about Nigeria. When I was doing my research, I learned that Nigeria is facing so many problems. Nigeria is a very diverse country and actually a very rich country in terms of resources. It has a lot of natural gas, iron ore, tin etc. Nigeria Is the also 6th leading oil exporter in the world but despite all that money, Nigeria stays as one of the “poor” countries. Nigeria is the most populous country in all of Africa. It is the most corrupt country in Africa today. It has a very high unemployment rate. Millions of people suffer from HIV/AIDS today. Malaria together with many other diseases threaten several lives in Nigeria today. Malnutrition is also one of the major problem of Nigeria and contributes to the death of about half a million children each year. There are many environmental challenges also that Nigeria is facing today like; soil degradation, deforestation, air and water pollution, and rapid urbanization. Together with political conflicts and religious tensions (between Christians and Muslims), deadly Boko Haram is also a big threat to lives and properties in Nigeria.
